Thanks to funds from the 2024 REEL Earth Day Challenge, newly planted trees in a looper moth-impacted area of Lynn Headwaters Regional Park are getting the care they need to thrive.

• In August, bird surveys confirmed the site was clear of nests, allowing maintenance work to begin.
• A forestry team used hand tools to trim back competing vegetation, giving young trees a better chance to grow.
• September: A biologist mapped invasive species, leading to expanded restoration efforts!
• November: A crew used a pulley system to remove large patches of English ivy from steep slopes, ensuring safer and healthier forests.
• January: Erosion control matting was installed to stabilize cleared areas, securing the long-term health of the site.

By tackling invasive species early and maintaining newly planted trees, this project is building a more resilient forest for the future.

With continued care from Metro Vancouver Regional Parks staff, this vital restoration effort is setting the stage for long-term ecosystem health!
